Dear reader,
There are
around 1200 restaurants in Majorca, 10 per cent of which can be counted
as being among the top gourmet restaurants.
Majorca
is becoming more and more of a gourmet paradise. Formerly its cuisine
was known more as a rustic common one, but this has definitely changed.
Each region of Majorca now offers a variety of restaurants that take the
traditional Majorcan cuisine up a notch making it quite the dining
experience.
Apart from
the typical Majorcan restaurants Majorca's top gastronomy now offers a
wide range of dishes from mainland Spain and the Mediterranean. Many of
the fish and gourmet restaurants offer specialities from regions such as
Galicia or the Basque country.
Residents
of Majorca are of course also delighted about the selection of
international cuisine, such as Italian, French, Mexican or Asian, which
is offered in abundance on this island.
And of
course one should not forget the numerous Tapas bars. Tapas are tasty
bite-size snacks that can be enjoyed as an aperitif.
Important:
Spanish eating times differ considerably from the British. Spaniards
will have a substantial lunch in their Siesta time, which is between
1.30 and 4 p.m. and consequently dinner doesn't usually take place until
around 9.30 p.m.
The
'Bodega' is another Spanish specialty which is found particularly here
in Majorca. Surrounded by decorative old wine barrels one can not only
fill one's wine cellar but also experience a typical Majorcan wine
dégustation.
Some more
Majorcan specialities, which should not be overlooks are their famous
sausages such as the Sobrassada – a real taste explosion!
We thank you for interest and
wish you a successful and enjoyable time a restaurant to your liking and
of course "Bon apetit!"
And next time you can provide us with the one or other
recommendation?!
